In patients who are suffering diabetes for a very long period of time will going to have a complication which is called the Charcot’s Foot. The reason why patients with diabetes can no longer feel any injury especially to their foot it’s because their nerves are being damage. In other words the foot becomes numb. Imagine what happens if they were to twist their foot and sprain the ankle. For most people it hurts and you immediately get off the foot. But in those with the sensory nerve damage like in diabetic patients, they do not feel the pain, so they continue walking on it. Can you imagine what happens if you keep walking on sprained ankle or a fracture of a foot bone? This is what is called a charcot’s foot and a lot of damage gets done.
