Know your way around a fret board

I am getting tired of hearing guitar players and “bands” who just play the same few chords over and over, and then call themselves songwriters. I think someone has to tell those people that playing the same chords, in the same pattern as everyone else out there does not make you a musician, nor does it make your sound unique. Here’s a good step toward musicianship on guitars for those of you aspiring for quality: learn your way around the fret board. Adding notes, and even combining some chords, or just even tweeking the chords you know very slightly can give you a much more interesting and unique sound.
